Training Guide: Stem Alternations in Aspect
Active Recall: Short vs. Long Verb Stems
In this set, we focus on verbs where the Imperfective (ongoing) form is created by changing the "stem" of the word. These are vital for forming the future tense correctly.
The "Longer" Process:
Notice how short Perfective verbs often grow an -ova- or -á- in the Imperfective: dát becomes dávat, prodat becomes prodávat.
The Future Tense Secret:
For Imperfective verbs (like uklízet), you use budu + infinitive. For Perfective verbs (like uklidit), the present form is the future (e.g., uklidím = I will tidy up).
Optimization Strategy:
- ✔ Step 1: Identify the pair. One is "once/result" (Short), one is "repeat/process" (Long).
- ✔ Step 2: Pay attention to vyluxovat/luxovat—here the prefix makes the difference.
- ✔ Step 3: Once you can switch between stems comfortably, go to the 📝 Test.
