Practice Numbers

Training Guide: The Logic of Czech Numerals

Active Recall: Counting and Case Changes

Czech numbers are unique because the lower digits (1–4) change based on gender and case. This practice session covers basic counting and the essential declensions needed for daily life.

The Tricky 1-4:

Numbers jeden, dva, tři, čtyři behave like adjectives. Notice how "one" changes for gender (jeden/jedna/jedno) and case (bez jednoho).

The Big Numbers:

Once you hit 5 (pět), the grammar shifts. Numbers from 5 to 99 often take the Genitive plural for the noun that follows them.

Optimization Strategy:

  • Step 1: Memorize the base 1–10. These roots appear in larger numbers (e.g., pět → padesát → pět set).
  • Step 2: Practice the Instrumental forms (dvěma, třemi) as these are common when giving directions or measurements.
  • Step 3: Once you can count to a million and decline "one," proceed to the 📝 Test.
