Practice Perfective vs Imperfective

Training Guide: Aspect Pairs (Vidové dvojice)

Active Recall: Process vs. Result

Every card in this set represents a "Vidová dvojice" (Aspect Pair). Understanding the difference between **doing** something and **finishing** something is key to reaching A2 fluency.

Imperfective (Nedokonavá):

Think of these as "In Progress." Use these for habits (every day), ongoing actions (now), or when the result doesn't matter (e.g., mýt - to be washing).

Perfective (Dokonavá):

Think of these as "Mission Accomplished." Use these for a one-time completed action or the final result (e.g., umýt - to have it washed/clean).

Optimization Strategy:

  • Step 1: Identify the prefix. Most perfective verbs use prefixes (u-, na-, vy-, za-).
  • Step 2: Note that Perfective verbs **cannot** express the present moment. (Uvařím = I will cook/finish cooking).
  • Step 3: Use the 📝 Test once you can identify which verb represents the result.
