Practice Verbs (I)

Training Guide: The -ím Conjugation Class

Active Recall: The -it / -et / -ět Verb Group

This practice set covers the "Short Ending" group. While the infinitives vary, the 1st person singular consistently ends in -ím. This includes vital verbs for communication like mluvit (to speak) and rozumět (to understand).

Modal Verbs:

Pay special attention to muset (must) and smět (be allowed to). These follow the -ím pattern (musím, smím) and are essential for expressing obligation.

Irregular Stems:

Note that jíst becomes jím and stát becomes stojím. These cards will help you memorize these frequent exceptions through repetition.

Optimization for Mastery:

  • Step 1: Translate the English infinitive to its Czech 1st-person form.
  • Step 2: Say the full example sentences (e.g., "Mluvím anglicky") to practice natural flow.
  • Step 3: Once you can recall the whole list, verify your score in the 📝 Test.
